The Fighter is a boxing movie directed by David O. Russel. It stars Mark Walhberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams. It made 93.6 million dollars in the Box Office, and scored a 91% on rotten tomatoes. This movie definitly lives up to the high score from the critics.
The Fighter is a story of an Irish boxer named Micky Ward. In the beginning of the movie Ward was struggling. Part of this is because of his brother Dicky. His brother was a former successful boxer, but developed a drug problem. Micky's mother is also failing at being his manager. Throughout this, Micky is having a relationship with a girl named Charlene. She does not get along with the family, because she wants Micky to train without his family. This adds even more drama. Eventually this idea begins to work and Micky wins multiple fights. Currently his brother Dicky is in jail, but strategically he helps Micky win an important match. Once Dicky gets out, he works with Micky who is fighting for the Welterwieght Title. He goes on to win the title, with his family coming together.
Jeff Beck, from the Examinar.com did not like The Fighter. One problem Beck Stated was "pretty much all of the characters feel flat." I disagree with this statement because the characters are developed and display a lot of good acting. Christian Bale does a good job adding emoition and drauma to the film. He earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, when playing Dicky. Mark Whalberg also does a good job of being the calmer, shyer brother. You begin to really understand the realtioinships people have with eachother. Also Beck states that the " the film is fully predictable." I disagree because the viewer could never really tell what was going to happen. Micky at some points was out of shape, and emotionally damaged. Even though this is a sports movie, Mark Whalberg made you believe anything coiuld happen to his character. I think Jeff Becks harsh criticism was false.
Jon Hanlon from Big Hollywood.com was a fan of this movie. He really enjoys seeing the relationships among the family, "The film is about a family first". I also like the family aspect that the fighter brings. Micky can barely take it, and people can relate to that. Hanlon also states "The Fighter is an actor's film." I agree with this because the characters are entertaining, and the characters develop very well. Seing Micky go through these challenges makes the revival of his career awesome. This connects to the viewer, because people have to get through hard times. Jon Hanlon gives an accurate review of the movie, and message its giving.
Seing Micky go through these challenges makes the revival of his career awesome. This connects to the viewer, because people have to get through hard times like Micky. The acting makes interesting characters, who add to a cool story. Micky Ward shows makes the viewer believe in hope, and shows that people can get through difficult times. The acting, directing, and message make this a good movie.
